Three weeks ago, we told you about Publishers Weekly‘s enthusiastic reaction to My Jewish Year. In a newsletter we mailed out last week, we added a few more assessments that we received subsequently. At the moment, we’re in an interesting phase for Abigail Pogrebin’s My Jewish Year. It’s a time when pre-publication reviews from book-industry magazines are beginning to come in ahead of the March 14, 2017, publication date. And no matter how wonderful we think the book is, we really cannot predict how reviewers will receive it.

Well, in the case of Publishers Weekly, the answer is: quite well.

Wallant Winner: Nicole Krauss’s THE HISTORY OF LOVE

As previously mentioned, we have launched a new blog project here. In each series post, we take an appreciative look back on a book that has won the Edward Lewis Wallant Award. Wallant, as you may recall, died at the tragically young age of 36 back in 1962. The previous year, he published the classic novel The Pawnbroker, which was a National Book Award finalist. We re-issued that novel (with a foreword by Dara Horn) in late 2015. In this post, we spotlight Nicole Krauss’s The History of Love, which won the prize for 2005.
