AJE

Welcome to the latest installment of “American Jewish Experience Around the Web.” In these posts, we share some of the most compelling items we’ve discovered online lately that address American Jewish Experience (AJE).

  • Amid all of the election news, you may not have caught this tidbit: Missouri has chosen its first Jewish governor. Meet Eric Greitens in this JTA interview.
  • The 2016 edition of “Forward 50,” a “list of Jews who have impacted American life,” has been published.
  • The American Jewish Congress (AJC) and the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) have launched the Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council, “a new national group of leading Muslim and Jewish Americans.”
  • “Eliezer was his Hebrew name. We sometimes read and studied together, Lorca and midrash and Eluard and Buddhist scriptures and Cavafy. We could get quite Talmudic, especially with wine.” From Leon Wieseltier’s tribute to the late, great Leonard Cohen.
  • And here’s a sweet tale, especially since Veterans Day was observed just a few days ago: “Military food rations generally don’t include kugel and matza balls, but when a group of uniformed U.S. Army and Israeli soldiers came in for an early dinner last week at Gottlieb’s Restaurant in Williamsburg (Satmar-owned for three generations) that’s exactly what they got.” Read the whole story over on Jew in the City.

Any AJE items you’d care to add? Let us know, in comments.
